Abstract
In order to establish possible differences in the use of tobacco, alcohol, and illicit drugs between Veracruz women and men at different times during the social confinement of the COVID-19 pandemic, during the period from 2020 to 2022, a longitudinal study was designed. The information in this manuscript is part of the project Anxiety, depression, lifestyles, and well-being in the current sociocultural context, developed by the Observatory of Quality of Life and Social Health of the Universidad Veracruzana, where 3,297 adults from Veracruz, Mexico, participated. The results show that women have significantly lower consumption of tobacco, alcohol, and illicit drugs. These consumption behaviors can be related to the various forms of adaptation and coping in the pandemic, whose differences can contribute to the development of intervention proposals focused on promoting health and thus well-being.
