Abstract

Background. Periodontal disease (PD) is a chronic inflammatory condition that destroys dental support tissues, leading to tooth loss. It is associated with Metabolic Syndrome (MS), which includes obesity, dyslipidemia, and hypertension. Combined with PD parameters, these factors contribute to an increased risk of cardiovascular problems. Aim. To evaluate the relationship between MS components and PD parameters in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Methods A descriptive and correlational study was conducted. Clinical records of 39 patients with PD and T2D from the Dr. Rafael Lucio High Specialty Center in Xalapa, Veracruz, were analyzed. Results Significant correlations were identified between probing bleeding levels and glucose levels (r=0.3452, p=0.0214), mean arterial pressure and clinical attachment levels (r=0.3322, p=0.0268), and probing bleeding with mean arterial pressure (r=0.5346, p=0.0268). Conclusion: A direct relationship was observed between the components of MS and the clinical parameters of periodontal disease.
