Abstract
In the context of the 2024 presidential election in Mexico, this paper analyzes the news agenda of traditional media, considering the type of concession: public or private. It uses the Instituto Nacional Electoral´s (INE) monitoring of radio and television programs and analyzes the segments from the most-watched television news programs nationwide, three privately licensed news programs and three publicly licensed news programs, with the aim of identifying differences in the thematic hierarchy, news treatment, and coverage given to presidential candidates Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and Bertha Xóchitl Gálvez Ruiz. The results showed differences between the types of licenses: public media news programs gave the most mentions and had a more diverse thematic agenda, while private media showed less thematic diversity and coverage more oriented toward economic development. Likewise, variations were observed in the informational assessment and use of journalistic resources, suggesting the presence of differentiated agendas conditioned by the financing model and organizational logic of each type of media. However, no pronounced difference in the coverage of the candidates was observed.
